Archtop Guitars
The archtop guitar is a semi-hollow, acoustic-electric guitar. These styles of guitar are used most in jazz and blues styles of playing because of their tones. Also, they were used because they were one of the first types of guitars created. There are f-holes in most archtops. These are hollow parts in the top part of the guitar where sound can go into and resonate. Archtops use humbucking pickups, or pickups that were created so that a dreadful hum wasn't as loud or constant coming out of the amplifier. Archtops are traditionally fitted with thicker strings than most other guitars because they have to extra strength to support them.
