Electric Guitars
Originally, people saw the electric guitar as having no potential. Now it is one of the most popular instruments and important inventions of the 20th century. Electric guitars have all of the same fundamental parts as acoustic guitars, but they have electronics built in. They have pickups under the strings closer to the bridge so that the string vibrations can be picked up and amplified through an amplifier on the other end of the signal chain. There are usually knobs on the guitar too. These can be used for adjusting specific pickup's volumes, tone, and volume. There are sometimes switches, too. The most common type of switch is the pickup selector. It activates different pickups when it is in a different position. This allows you to vary your tone drastically. Most electric guitars are not hollow like their acoustic counterpart either. They are usually solid and full of wiring. The wood isn't as important either but it still plays a role in what type of tones your guitar can produce. Back to TYPES page
