Twelve Stringed Guitars
A twelve string guitar is the same as a normal 6 stringed guitar except it has an extra string for every one. This is used to create a more resonant, full, and rich sound and tone. It also creates a natural chorus effect because of the same note ringing at the same time. However these notes are usually a microtone or two off because guitars can't hold perfect tuning unless they are in a perfect environment. This difference creates a slight wavering sound which is the natural chorus. Many artists use 12 strings in the studio because they add color to recordings. Back to TYPES page
